Conditioning provides a progressive program designed to build strength, endurance, and confidence, balancing both the physical and mental elements of peak fitness.
Body conditioning exercises aim to target the entire body, simultaneously targeting a range of muscle groups in order to strengthen, stretch, and tone the body. When performed regularly, effectively, and safely, its wide variety of ‘moves’ allow participants of any ability or age to noticeably improve their overall health and fitness, whilst building improved levels of strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination, power, and speed.
CrossFit conditioning in particular places a high level of importance upon ‘building a bigger, better engine’, or ensuring your aerobic and anaerobic bases are strong enough to make it through high-intensity workouts. After consistently completing effective conditioning exercises, you’ll soon discover the benefits of a more efficient cardiovascular system and increased VO2 max.
Body conditioning is an excellent option for those looking to lose weight. Whilst a good conditioning class in itself can both burn up to 500 calories, and increase the metabolic rate by between ‘10 and 25 for up to 48 hours post-workout’, the benefits of body conditioning are also transferable to any other exercise efforts, working to ensure you’re more efficient and effective in any class or workout you take part in.

Fitness is typically defined as a ‘measure of physical qualities that create the potential for performance’; some of which include joint mobility, range of motion, extended range of motion, resting heart rate, aerobic capacity, whilst conditioning is described as the physical and mental capacity and ability to use the aforementioned qualities.
Whilst many gymgoers, athletes and hobbyists may have a high level of fitness, it is entirely possible for them to also have a poor level of conditioning – impeding heavily on their potential to perform.
Conditioning is hugely important to the successful competition of any physical activity – helping athletes push through the toughest of high-intensity workouts, and assisting gymgoers in their everyday lives and tasks; significantly decreasing the risk of chronic health issues or injury.
